The university’s Group of Energy Conversion System is specialised in advanced power generation technologies from clean fuels and renewable energies. They are involved in particular in designing the innovative CO2 blends based on learnings from the SCARABEUS projects.
Protarget AG – Germany
Type of organisation: Engineering firm and EPC contractor
Protarget is experienced in solar engineering and manufacturing projects throughout the world. They are in charge of the balance of plant and the production of the containerised plant to be sent to King Saud University for testing.

Experienced EPC Contractor in the Energy & Renewable sectors with extensive experience in the development, construction, operation and maintenance of power plants, Cobra is leading the economic analysis of the integrated system as well as scaling-up studies.
Baker Hughes – Italy

As part of Baker Hughes, Nuovo Pignone Srl offers a large portfolio of equipment for energy production, in particular competitive turbomachinery for new generation power cycles. In DESOLINATION, they will design the innovative power cycle and adapted power block turbomachinery.
Aalborg CSP – Denmark

Leading developer and supplier of innovative renewable technologies, especially Concentrated Solar Power and having develop the first CSP powered desalination system, they are in charge of overseeing and supporting the plant development to ensure its potential for industrial uptake after the project.
Fraunhofer IKTS – Germany

Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems (IKTS) is one of the world‘s top research institutions in the field of separation technology that applies ceramic materials. In DESOLINATION, they are involved in designing the Membrane Distillation’s hydrophobic ceramic nanofiltration membrane.
Cranfield University – United Kingdom

The university team represents the United Kingdom at the European Energy Research Alliance on Concentrated Solar Power. In the project, they oversee both the CO2 power cycle design and its integration in the whole plant. They are also involved in the social and environmental impact assessment.

Lund University - Sweden

The Membrane Group at LU is the leading membrane research group in Sweden with more than 50 years of research and development of membranes. In the project, LUND will optimise the Forward Osmosis + Membrane Distillation and waste heat utilization.
Lappeenranta University of Technology- Finland

The LUT School of Energy Systems (LES) is the largest university-level energy research and education community in Finland. In DESOLINATION, LUT will study and test fluid dynamics and heat transfer of supercritical CO2 blends, and how to use them to integrate CSP and desalination processes.

Fundación Tekniker - Spain

The specific mission of Tekniker is to help the industrial sector increase its innovative capacity by means of generating and applying technology and knowledge. In the DESOLINATION project, they will be implicated in the development of a digital twin of the CSP and desalination system.
Lulea University of Technology – Sweden

With a strong competence in several areas of research, in the DESOLINATION project LULEA will develop graded ceramic high flux membranes with high stability and high salt rejection, which will be integrated in the project’s innovative Forward Osmosis + Membrane Distillation desalination system.
German University of Technology in Oman - Oman

GUtech will contribute to the thermodynamics analysis of both DESOLINATION’s power cycles (Brayton and Rankine cycles), as well as to the process simulation with commercial software and the development and opsonization of brine treatment.
Euroquality – France

Euroquality is a service provider specialised in innovation consulting and European project management. Euroquality will be responsible for the information management, as well as the communication and dissemination activities of the DESOLINATION project.
Technical University of Eindhoven – The Netherlands

TU/e’s project members are experts in the fields of membrane formation, nanofiltration and electrodialysis. They will collaborate with other DESOLINATION partners to develop two Forward Osmosis membranes for the desalination cycle.
TEMISTh – France

TEMISTh is a numerical tools and concepts development firm specialized in heat exchangers. They will bring their expertise in design and optimisation of heat exchangers cores and headers in order to develop innovative and modular concepts for the DESOLINATION coupled CSP and desalination system.
Maribor University – Slovenia

With years of experience in membrane technology, Maribor University will optimize the draw solution for the Forward Osmosis + Membrane Distillation desalination process for the DESOLINATION coupled CSP + desalination system.
King Saud University - Saudi Arabia

King Saud University’s active CSP facility in Riyadh will hold the DESOLINATION demonstration site, where the innovative technology coupling CSP power cycles and desalination processes will be tested for 1 year.
University of Bahrain - Bahrain

University of Bahrain is the only national university at the Kingdom of Bahrain and will lead the transferability and replicability studies of the DESOLINATION process to ensure the project’s technology will be exploitable in other GCC countries.
